Professors Hear Lectures On Four Great Countries
Charles E. Stickle and Verne Brown attended a meeting of the Interpreters' Club at U. S. C. last Monday evening, which was featured by speakers of unusual note.
The hopes and fears of four great countries, Russia, China, Japan, and Australia were discussed by the speakers in authoritative and interesting lectures. Will Durant, famous economist and writer, spoke on Russia. Dr. Nitabe, Secretary of the League of Nations, tried to explain Japan's recent action in Manchuria as a result of her fear of Russia. Chester Rowell, Chairman of the Pacific Relations Conference who has just recently returned from China, gave a comprehensive discussion of that country's problems. Frank Russell, editor of the most prominent newspaper in Melbourne, spoke on Australia, which is recognized as the only country where there is harmony and prosperity in the face of the world-wide depression.
