Notes
John J. McDonough, vice-president, Harris Trust and Savings Bank, Chicago, introduces Dr. Will Durant, author and philosopher: "It is presumptuous of me to try in the usual way to introduce Dr. Will Durant to you, or vice versa, not only because he is a very old friend of the members of the Executives' Club, but also because of his fabulous 'History of Philosophy' and his other monumental books that have made him so well known to millions of Americans. However, I do wish to say to Dr. Durant how happy we are that he has flown two thousand miles from California only to be with us on this very auspicious occasion, and we all look forward with the greatest of pleasure to enjoying his prodigious learning, his brilliant wit, and his great personal charm. Dr. Will Durant, who will speak to us on the subject, 'The Destiny of Civilization.'"
